Accommodation: Hotels, holiday houses & holiday apartments in Costa de la Luz Andalusia

The Costa de la Luz is a landscapee of the Andalusian coast in Spain facing the Atlantic andt extends from Tarifa along the coasts of the Province of Cádiz and the Province of Huelva, to the mouth of the Guadiana River Costa de la Luz comprises sun and sand; the rivers flow in channels before reaching the sea; water and earth combine in the swamps, estuaries and salt mines. El Puerto de Santa Maria is the seaside top-resort of the Costa de la Luz.

The beautiful beaches of Costa de la Luz are ideal to spend some beach holidays with the family. Whether you're anticipating a well-deserved break or considering grabbing one of the last minute holidays to the Costa de la Luz and especially Conil de la Frontera, you'll discover an unspoilt corner of Spain. The typical beaches here are more expansive and probably backed by sand dunes and pine trees. This part of the coast has not seen the high-rise hotel development of other areas. The temperatures are slightly milder and the often strong Atlantic winds and waves are favoured by wind surfers and surfboarders alike.

The most appealing fully-fledged resort for families is Zahara de los Atunes and Chiclana de la Frontera though it must be said that it is expanding rapidly, with building work on its fringes. The whitewashed town sits behind several superb beaches such as La Barrosa in Chiclana de la Frontera - vast, with perfect fine sand shelving gently in the water, though the waves can be strong.

El Puerto de Santa Maria, farther up the coast, is another good low-key base. Set around the shell of an old port and behind a spectacular wide sandy beach that continues for miles in both directions, this fishing village has grown into a little resort.

If nature is preferable to window shopping and tapas tasting then you're spoilt for choice with the number of nature reserves in the area too.  The name Costa de la Luz comes from a bright, vivid light that highlights the comeliness of its streets, the whitewash of its walls, the golden hue of the dunes and the reflection of the silver sea, the only greyish tint in this land of colour.

The most interesting part of the coast is from Sanlucar de Barrameda to Cadiz, where the towns have sherry houses to visit and old quarters to explore; the southern end, around Tarifa, has a hip, youthful international scene.

This coast is often divided into two sections. Costa de la Luz which stretches from the Portuguese border to the Donaña park and the River Guadalquivir. Costa de la Luz stretches form the River Guadalquivir to Tarifa at the mouth of the Mediterranean sea. Few people speak much English, there are hardly any British tourists - Germans provide a more significant foreign presence - and no tacky anglicised cafés.

The Costa de la Luz in Huelva Province

The Costa de la Luz (Coast of Light) in Huelva Province runs from the Guadiana river that separates Portugal from Spain to the Guadalquivir river in the east. Despite not being as scenically dramatic as its neighbour in Cadiz Province, this part of the Atlantic coastline boasts long, unspoilt sandy beaches backed by pine woods and sand dunes and many protected coastal reserves.
